出産直後に感じた子育ての孤立感やその後地域の方々との出会いによって救われた経験から、地域で子育てをする大切さを実感し、２０１２年こまちぷらすを立ち上げる。現在５０人程のスタッフと300人を超える登録ボランティアと日々、横浜市戸塚区「こまちカフェ」「こよりどうカフェ」の運営含む６つの事業の柱を通して子育てが「まちの力」で豊かになる社会を目指し事業実施中。全国にいるカフェ型の居場所の立ち上げを考えている人向けの講座やインターン事業等も展開している。2016年からは運送会社とともにまちから出産祝いを届ける「ウェルカムベビープロジェクト」を実施。2023年ザルツブルググローバルセミナーフェローに選出。

Yumiko founded Comachiplus in 2012 to prevent social isolation in child-raising and rebuild a culture of collective action to raise children within the community. She made a model of an innovative café, with baby-cuddling volunteers to support parenting– and now trying to spread the idea in/out of Japan. Also, she created a project that sends baskets of gifts to families celebrating new-born children. The basket symbolizes a welcome from the community. Supported by Yamato Transport, the project has sent 6000 boxes since 2016 and launched Japan’s first diaper vending machine. Now she is running the organization with 50 employees and over 300 volunteers.
