Kazue Kojima earned her PhD degree at the University of York in UK, and her concentration is on Japan’s declining fertility rate. For her thesis, she conducted a total of 22 interviews with single and married Japanese women to explore and discover the causes behind why Japanese women were choosing to postpone marriage and having fewer children. Her thesis touched upon broader implications of gender inequality due to the Japanese patriarchal structure, explaining why this impacted women’s choices. Since the graduation, Kazue has been working to help women build better lives for themselves in a society with gender discrimination.
